Travel Soccer Program

Program Description

What is a travel team? It is a competitive team that plays against similar age/gender teams from other area clubs in the Rochester area (e.g., Pittsford, Fairport, Greece, Penfield, Webster).

Indoor training sessions will start in the late fall and continue through April. Training is typically once a week during the winter and twice a week beginning in April, but can vary based on the coaches discretion. The travel coach may also elect to play in either an indoor league and/or indoor tournaments.

Outdoor training sessions start in early spring with travel coach discretion on the practice times per week. There are 12 RDYSL league games starting in May and going through July and the coach may elect to play in 2 to 3 outdoor tournaments as well (league games are during the week-days & tournaments are on the weekends).

Registration takes place online during the month of August, with try-outs taking place on two consecutive weekends in September.

Eligibility

Players who will be at least 8 but no older than 19 on July 31, of the season year (i.e. the 8/2010 try-out is based on the players age prior to 7/31 of 2011) are eligible to try out for the V/F United travel soccer program. To determine the appropriate age group to try out with, use the following age matrix set by the United States Youth Soccer Association.

Tryouts

Travel tryouts will be held September 11, 12, 18 and 19, 2010. Details regarding the days and times for each age group’s tryout will be available on our website during the month of August. Each age group will have two 2-hour tryout sessions (one each weekend). It is strongly recommended that players attend both sessions.

Please arrive early to the first tryout session to allow time for player check in. Players who have not previously played travel soccer with VF United should bring a copy of their birth certificate or passport to the tryouts.

Fees

The Insurance/Tryout fee of $10 must be paid prior to a player’s participation in the travel tryouts. This fee can be paid online with a credit card at the time of registration or paid by check or cash at the first tryout session.

Once accepted to a team, a registration fee of $325 will be due by October 31, 2010. This fee covers the cost of weekly indoor practices through the winter, field usage fees, registration in Rochester District Youth Soccer League, referee costs and one summer tournament. Players new to the VF United travel program will receive a complete uniform for the 2011 season (blue jersey, white jersey, shorts and a pair of socks).  Returning players may purchase any needed uniform articles.  The board plans to include a full uniform in the club fees every 2 to 3 years, determined by the budget.  For 2011, uniforms are not included for returning players.

Additionally, some teams may opt to participate in indoor leagues or more tournaments with players splitting the costs.

**** Fees paid to V/F United are not refundable under any circumstances ****

Playing Up

Players wishing to try out for a team in a higher age bracket should read and understand the club’s Playing Up Policy. Please contact the appropriate coordinator prior to tryouts if you would like to be considered for a team in a higher age bracket:

  • Boys’ Coordinator: Scott Frutchey (924-2894)
  • Girls’ Coordinator: Jonh Norton (924-7561)

Players currently playing up with the first (highest division) team in an age group may attend that team’s tryout and are not required to try out with their age appropriate team. Players currently playing up on the second (lower division) team in an age group or playing up with a different club, must attend both age group’s tryouts in accordance with the policy.
