VFU Rec Soccer Program - Referee Coordinator Position

Roles / Responsibilities

The Referee Coordinator is responsible for the following:

§  Recruiting, training and mentoring new referees.

§  Scheduling referees for all recreation soccer league games (Summer and Fall sessions).

§  Mediating and resolving any referee disputes (rare occurrence in Rec pgm).

§  Attending Coaches Night meetings at the start of the summer season and stressing to coaches the importance of treating the referees well.

The club can provide the referee coordinator with:

§  Training materials for the referees.

§  Referee equipment.

§  Support from the Recreation Director as needed.

§  Contact information (phone and email lists) for communicating with referees, coaches, players and parents.

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

§  Prior experience as a soccer referee.

§  A positive attitude when working with parents, coaches and children.

§  Good communication and organizational skills.

Estimated Weekly Time Commitment

Summer Program (Games played June - July): TBD hours/week.

2009 summer rec season: 152 games played.

Fall Program (Games played Sept – Oct): TBD hours/week.

2009 fall rec season: 35 games played.
